Reply:I have been searching since you posted this question, for 4 Hours, and cannot locate a translation of Gole Yakh, therefore I must surrender. I had at first through this may be the "Ice Flower Shrub", but after researching that, I found it doesn't fit your description. Please visit this site where you can view, and read descriptions on 160 delicious shrubs, maybe you can identify it.

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but if you've only ever seen it in a cartoon, it may or may not be a real kind of flower.

Reply:Digitalis purpurea is correct.
Reply:This flower is called Foxglove or Digitalis purpurea. It comes in many colours and is gorgeous in the garden. It really is a biannual vs a perennial as the plant tends to bloom every second year.

Reply:I normally use the Agricultural Extension Website here in TX. That one usually can refer me to what I'm looking for. I'm not sure if you've got that option for California, but it's worth a try. Another option would be to try a University website in CA. Most states have a University with a top notch Agricultural program.

Does anyone have info on clay flower pots? I am looking for the name of the pot with holes in the side?

I am also looking for instructions on how to plant in this type of pot.. I saw it on TV once.

Does anyone have info on clay flower pots? I am looking for the name of the pot with holes in the side?
Clay pots with 'planting' entrances in the sides are called 'strawberry jars'. Better ones now have pronounced "balconies" to better hold potting soil and plants in. Layer the bottom of the container with drainage materials. Fill the pot with soil to the lowest 'window', insert your plant, then resume filling. Continue on that vein. As a little "cheating" technique, use a piece of loose leaf paper, rolled so that it is an inch or so in diameter. Fill the tube with pea gravel, or sand. Fill the soil around it. Now you have a means to get water directly to the lower portions of the pot.

Another clay pot with 'holes' in its side is called an orchid pot. These differ from the above in that the holes are like slashes, and are intended to allow water to escape and air in. They are used like traditional pots, the planting mix used is a fairly coarse pine bark as opposed to soil.

I hope that this helps

Good luck-
Reply:Ys, it's a "strawberry jar" and people have mentioned planting strawberries or flowers in it. But set your imagination free! I have seen a stunning one planted with different varieties of Hens %26amp; Chicks. Another great idea is to fill it with herbs and keep it on the deck or patio, close to the kitchen where you can always have access to fresh herbs. Think outside the box! (or the jar!)
Reply:Rumble Gate or Heaven's Gate.
Reply:Having not seen said pot I can only imagine that it is a strawberry planter. Put clay pot chards in the bottom or rocks then fill with planter mix and insert the roots of the strawberries in the holes.
Reply:You are probably talking about a strawberry pot.......the larger ones with the holes on the side....the smaller one with holes is for orchids (don't think this because they are only 6" pots).

I have always enjoyed planting the strawberry pots (found at any nursery in Texas) with any plant that drapes (like petunias, strawberries, etc) All you do is take a 4" plant, take as much soil off the 4" pot as you need to get the plant in the side opening (big pot already has soil with osmocote or slow release fertilizer in it).

You want those little plants that you are sticking in to the holes to really get their root system growing in the larger soil in the pot. (also add plants at the top of the big strawberry pot, so they can fall over and drape, too. After you are through with all of these, you might want to go back and add about a teaspoon of Osmocote in each little opening where you have added a plant.....good luck.....sand is great for strawberries, but not for flowers you want to drape.....use a good potting soil....
Reply:Sounds like a strawberry pot to me. I've been interested in trying one of these myself. Here's some info. I found on the web about it:

http://www.thecryptmag.com/Online/35/Str...

Hope this helps!
Reply:Strawberry pots: http://www.thecryptmag.com/Online/35/Str...
Reply:Sounds like you want a strawberry pot. They are available in most nurseries in the spring. I have seen them at Lowe's garden department many times. You can use them for a variety of trailing plants. They are beautiful on a patio or in a sun room.

To plant them, you fill the pot full of good, rich potting soil. Then you buy small plants (usually the trailing kind) and put them in the "pockets" of the strawberry pot. In the top you plant something tall in the center and smaller plants in the 12, 3, 6, 9 o'clock positions. Look at your garden center for plants that do well in your area and are the colors you need.

What is the name of a purple plant that has buds that only flower into bright pink blooms 1 time each?

I have a plant with purple leaves and purple roots. New leaves that grow are green and turn purple within a day or so. It seems like it can't be overwatered and loves the hot weather. Since the extremely hot weather has kicked in, the plant seems to flourish. It also blooms bright pink tubular flowers that only last for 1 day, but it takes several weeks for the buds to grow. I think the plan looks very unusual and has been very easy to grow. I really want to know what this plant is. I have search the internet and there are several plants w/ purple leaves and pink flowers but they are not my plant. Please help!!!!

What is the name of a purple plant that has buds that only flower into bright pink blooms 1 time each?
sounds like the elegant weed thistle to me. If it just got there on it's own accord.

Which names do you like best?

Our daughter will be Sophia Rose ( Rose is a family name ) and we'll call her Sophia and/or Sophie. I'm planning ahead for her future sister and want a name that will sound cute with Sophie or Sophia Rose. So far I have:

Gabriella Regina ( Regina is a variation of a family name ) ; Gabriella Grace;

Ava Grace;

Ava Elizabeth ( Elizabeth is my Mom's name );

Lily Ava;

Ava Lily ( or Lilly with all Lily names );

Iris Aisling ( Ashling);

Ava Iris;

Gabriella Lilly;

Any other suggestions for names that go with Gabriella or Ava and/or flower names? I love names with nicknames, so I like Gabby and/or Ella for Gabriella. Ava doesn't really have a nickname, but I still like it. Maybe if it was with the right middle name I'd call her by both names? I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks for your ideas and suggestions! :) Melissa

Which names do you like best?
While Sophia Rose is beautiful, wouldn't it be best to do something totally different with the second name. I say this because you have Sophia (very strong name) followed by Rose a softer name creating a quite eligant name. I feel as if it would be best to somehow counter that name with something just as strong, but with a unique differance that does not contend with the other. For instance like Lilly Marie
Reply:My all time favorite little girls name is Gabriella Grace, but since you're planning ahead, I have to admit that using the middle names Lily and Rose would be precious! I'm not sure what your last name is, and while I love Gabriella, I don't like it so much with Lily in this case....so I think I like Gabriella Grace the best!!
Reply:Ava Lily

My suggestion:

Olivia Grace
Reply:Ava Grace isn't too bad. Sorry but I can't think of any other names to go with Gabrielle or Ava.
Reply:i agree with minus. i have been called horny many times.. and im in college!
Reply:Lily Ava
Reply:I think you need to think before you name another.

Regina most definitely will be used by the kids to tease her. Regina the vagina. Grace and Elizabeth also have sayings about them.

Not that I say you should not use the names. I just say when naming a person think of the future and not just a cute name. Children are very cruel some times but honestly do not mean to be.
Reply:I like Ava Elizabeth and Iris Aisling! Those are cute and pretty!

I also like the names:

Can anyone tell me what a sophie flower is?

My daughters name is Sophie, i have been told there is a "sophie" flower. I can not seem to find it, can anyone tell me if there is really a sophie flower?

Can anyone tell me what a sophie flower is?
There are nearly 30 plants if you search the link.

eg:

Alstroemeria - 'Little Miss Sophie'

Begonias - 'Sophie Cecile'

'Sophie's Jenny'

'Sophie's White Spot'

Chrysanthemum - 'Sophie Elizabeth'

Also there are two roses with "Sophie" as part of their name:

Sophie de Marsilly

Sophie's Perpetual
Reply:I have not heard of a sophie flower, but there are some varieties of flowers that might have 'sophie' in the title. Since Sophie is derived from the Greek word 'sophia' meaning 'wisdom', you may want to look up which flowers mean wisdom. the Iris flower means wisdom and valor, and there may be some other flowers with the meaning of wisdom as well. Happy hunting!
Reply:Haven't heard of that

What is the name of the red flower that grows only after a fire in the cape, south africa?

It belongs to the genus Cyrtanthus and the family Amaryllidacae and encompasses 60 species and is native to South Africa.

The name Cyrtanthus is derived from Greek, kyrtos meaning curved and anthos meaning flower

Many members of this genus are noted for their fast flowering response after fires (hence the name Fire lily)and some will flower in just over a week after been exposed to a fire.

Cyrtnathus Odorus and Cyrtanthus Guthrieae are found in the southern cape and Cyrtanthus Ventricosus in the south western cape and these are winter growing whilst the summer growing variety are found mostly in the northern and eastern parts of the country

What is the name of the red flower that grows only after a fire in the cape, south africa?
The plant is called the Fire Lily, Cyrtanthus ventricosus and is nothing at all to do with Proteas!

Quote:

Several members of the genus are noted for their extremely rapid flowering response to natural bush fires, hence the common name, fire lily for several species. Indeed, species like Cyrtanthus contractus, widespread in the eastern half of South Africa, as well as C. ventricosus from the south western Cape, and C. odorus from the southern Cape, only flower after fires. The flowers of C. ventricosus are known to reach full flowering stage in just nine days following a fire!
Reply:hi yes its of the family proteacea named after the God Proteus who could change his form at will, because proteas have such different forms.
Reply:Almost certainly belongs to the genus Protea, could be Protea cynaroides (King Protea) or Protea barbigera (Giant Wooly Protea).

Proteas grow all over the dry southern cape and their seeds are only released from the seed pods by the charring effects of fire (heat causes seed pods to expand and rupture, allowing seeds to escape). Although this fire kills the parent plant, the seeds drop into ash-rich soil which has been purged of competing plants by the fire and so have an excellent start in life.

Maybe you can have small paw prints placed around the flower? or if you really want to represent your little girl (puppy) you can get an image of her?

Do you think Sky Flower is a cool name?

I think it's kind of dorky, but that's just me.

Do you think Sky Flower is a cool name?
No...Sure it's original....but really kind of dorky and corny, in my opinion.
Reply:I think it is sweet, obviously a female. You would need to be happy with the name Sky. Sky Flower or Skyflower, would be used on occasion, leaving you with Sky. Which is very pretty in itself!

Should I plant the wild flower fire weed into my garden?

i'm thinking of making a wildflower garden, since i have so many wildflowers around here. some of the flowers i am going to put in are wild sweetpea, browneyed suzies, daisys, buttercups, and about 7 more that but i don't know there names. I'd like to put in fire weed, so how can i, and should i? i'm thinking of maybe not putting it in the flower bed, but instead putting it in the forest (i live in the rural). because i don't want it to take over. how do i transplant it?

also called Great Willow Herb, or Wickup, perennial wildflower, in the evening primrose family (Onagraceae), abundant on newly clear and burned areas. Its spikes of whitish to magenta flowers, which grow up to 1.5 m (5 feet) high, can be a spectacular sight on prairies of the temperate zone. Like those of many weedy plants, its seeds can lie dormant for many years, awaiting the warmth necessary for germination.

What's the name of this plant/flower, & how do I care for it? (Picture URL inside)?

I received this plant with beautiful flowers, but the person who gave it to me didn't know its name, so I would like to find out in order to know how to properly care for it. Please check the picture url:

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q206/...

If you know what flower it is, that would be a good start, and if you happen to know how often it should be watered and what it's sunlight/shade tolerance is, that'd be great.

What's the name of this plant/flower, %26amp; how do I care for it? (Picture URL inside)?
this plant is called a cyclamen.it likes semi-shade,out of direct sun.not to much water, particularly in winter, just keep moist.in the spring you can put it outside for the summer.
Reply:It is a cyclamen. There are 'florist' type ones that need extra care and are mainly indoor types and there and outdoors with chill factor and under shady tree tough ones.

If you live in a temperate climate the outdoor ones are tough just need semi shade and a regular water not too much though or they will rot off.

The hot house ones need a good glass house environment and a dormant period in shade and are a lot harder to keep going.
Reply:I am not totally sure but you can check the site below. There are numerous Annuals and Perennials listed with photos.
Reply:That is a Cyclamen. Do a search on the internet. You will find all kinds of great info. This is really strange I pulled this up. I received 1 for Christmas and I went online to search for it myself. I have huge trees, lots of shade and it turns out this is a shade plant. Good luck with it!

If you live in the U.S. or Canada, Walmart sells such material at very reasonable prices. What is the name of the flower that was named after Adonis in the book of Metaphorphis by Ovid?

Adonis and Venus

What is the name of the flower that was named after Adonis in the book of Metaphorphis by Ovid?
I quote:

As Pomegrananates are, as briefly clinging

To Life as did Adonis, for the winds

Which gave the name of the flower, Anemone,

The wind-flower, shakes the peddles off, too early,

Doomed all too swift and soon.
Reply:Adonis died at the tusks of a wild boar, sent by either Artemis in retaliation for Aphrodite instigating the death of Hippolytus, a favorite of the huntress goddess, or Aphrodite's paramour, Ares.[4] As Aphrodite sprinkled nectar on his body, each drop of Adonis' blood turned into a blood-red anemone, and the river Adonis (modern Nahr Ibrahim) flowing out of Mount Lebanon in coastal Lebanon ran red, according to Lucian.

The most detailed and literary version of the story of Adonis is Ovid, Metamorphoses, x
Reply:It probably refers to the field poppy or rosa rugosa, but there is a flower today CALLED an "Adonis Flower" or "Pheasant's eye." (Adonis annua)

I am in dire need of the name or a certain flower. It is sorta like a daisy, but in many other colors (white, red, orange) and it is different because it is bigger. It has a really thick stem. You usualy buy them as one single flower.

Should the names of bridesmaids & groomsmen, etc be included in wedding invitation?

I wanted to create my own wedding invitation. Should I include the names of the bridesmaids and groomsmen, flower girls, maid of honor and the best man? Thanks.

Should the names of bridesmaids %26amp; groomsmen, etc be included in wedding invitation?
that might make the invite a little too long. it would be easier to include them on a wedding program. just stick to your name, the grooms, and your parents.
Reply:No because if one of them craps out you will have to reprint the invitation.. Better off publishing the name of local divorce attorney or er at the nearest mental hospital so you will have it for future reference...
Reply:If you want to.

We only put our names on the invitation.

We are putting the attendants on the programs though.
Reply:Its usually not done but it would be fine
Reply:No, it's a waste of space. Put them in the program instead.
Reply:No. That listing can go in the program you give out at the church.
Reply:No, and if you want to create your own invite, look at websites to see what a typical one says. people have short extension spans so don't bore them with an excessively long invitation. Check out this website, and read what they typical invitation says.
Reply:No, but they should be sent an invitation. You can include them in the program, but not on that actual invitation.
Reply:No, it's an invite to your wedding, not theirs, it is not necessary to put them on there, some people have loads of attendants and their invites would be huge if that was the done thing.
Reply:No just on the Programs is enough
Reply:It is up to you. You can do it either way. People usually don't list the bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls, etc on the invitations because it is going to be way too long. You want to make it short, simple, and beautiful. But since it is your wedding I think you should do what your heart desires.
Reply:NOPE. if you wish to print their names on the programs for the wedding ceremony that is where they would go. There is no place for them on the wedding invite.
Reply:Oh my no! That is not where there names go. The only names even required to have printed in the invitation are yours and the grooms! Here...try this:

http://www.lovepoemsandquotes.com/Weddin...
Reply:That's a great idea to create your own invitations, but it is not appropriate to put everyone that's in the wedding on them.A nice wedding program and dedications is where you would put their names on them.Another good idea that i did for my daughters wedding is put some fun photo's of everyone in the wedding party on a poster board at the Reception Hall and everyone got a kick out of it.That's a good way to show them how much the both of you appreciates them all.Good Luck!!!!!!!
Reply:No, but if you choose to that is your decision. But that is why most people make programs to let everyone know the names of the attendants and their roles.
Reply:why would u do that?
Reply:No. The bridesmaids, groomsmen, etc. are neither hosting the event or the subject of the event.

The bride and groom's names must go on the invitation, and it is traditional for the parents of the bride to be named because traditionally they host the event. It's also perfectly acceptable for the bride and groom to be the only names (either writing 'together with their parents' or without any mention of parents if circumstances make that necessary or preferable [deceased parents, parents disapproval, the bride and groom are middle-aged and their parents aren't involved, etc.]) or to list Bride: daughter of x and x, and Groom: son of x and x.

But unless the flower girl is hosting the event, her name doesn't need to appear. ; )
Reply:No! That goes on the program at the ceremony.
Reply:My friend designed a web site with all the info and it included the wedding party with some funny things to say about the party.

How can I turn my old mailbox into a flower pot?

I have replaced my old mailbox and would like some ideas on how I can display it as a planter or flower pot. i was thinking I could paint it and put our last name on it but how would I make flowers grow in it?

How can I turn my old mailbox into a flower pot?
Abrakadabra usually works.....If not, stand on end, fill with dirt, plant flowers in top pointing up....Nuf Said
Reply:If'n your memory is not the best, set the mailbox up it the garden with a pad of paper and a couple pencils inside

Also a good spot to set your cordless/cell phone
Reply:Sure! Make sure there are drainage holes and choose plants that trail or spill out like verbena, scaevola, or even ivy for that matter. You'll have to commit to watering by hand as the design would prevent rain from soaking in. You'll only be planting the opening, don't worry with the back of it. You may want to plant a vine like clematis to grow up and cover the top. Should look great.
Reply:i've actually done this! punch a hole in the bottom (i punched 4). Put enough gravel in the bottom so your plant doesn't get water-logged. I used regular potting soil with fertilizer in it already. Don't fill your mailbox up to the top though with the potting soil, you need to leave room for your plant! Kind of 'eyeball' where you would like your plant to start from. Then, put your plant in and start adding potting soil. Tamp it around the roots gently. Then water it well. The soil will sink somewhat, but don't panic. If the plant seems too deep inside, pull it up gently and refill with more potting soil. It should probably be a small plant like a petunia or lobelia, in a 2" - 4" pot you can get at the nursery, or put some seeds in! Try to keep your little plant evenly moist, not soaking wet. Petunias can get 'leggy' so you have to pinch them off after they have flowered. Anyway, i put in trailing lobelia, and it looked great! Good luck!
Reply:Yoiu could go to the michigan bulb website www.michiganbulb.com and type in the keyword "mailbox garden".They sell a collection of coneflowers, lavender and clematis with a diagram of how to plant to get the best look around a mailbox, lamppost ,or things like that. or you could plant wave petunias in it.They dont need alot of sun and would climb out the front
Reply:1. If your mailbox is metal, I would use tin snips to cut an oval out of the top of the mailbox.

2. Then using a set of wide pliers, bend the edges under into the mailbox and press to create a smooth and not dangerous edge. You may need to make some cuts with your tin snips to manage bending at the curves.

3.Turn the mailbox upside down and punch several holes in the bottom with an awl and hammer, or a Phillips head screwdriver and a hammer. These holes will let the excess water drain out. Cover the bottom of the mailbox with some old window screen to prevent the soil (or any ambitious roots) from leaking out.

4. Fill the mailbox with a high quality potting soil that has time-release fertilizer in it. You can just open the door and pour it in, providing that you are covering the top opening with your hand. Close the door. You can seal it with caulk if the door doesn't stay closed well. Use a box cutter to remove the seal for next year's planting.

5. Add your plants in from the top oval you cut out in step 1. Surround with more soil, press firmly all around the new plants, and give them a good drink (until water runs out the bottom)

Good Luck!

Flowers: What is the name of this flower?
UPDATE: looking at your new photo, I'm going to say Aechmea (Aechmea fasciata or a hybrid probably) instead of Puya. Both Aechmea and Puya are bromeliads. You're much more likely to find Aechmea in this country, though, and you can easily grow it in a pot, unlike many Puyas.

***Another picture of Aechmea fasciata***

It's not a dahlia--that's a spike with multiple buds. Dahlias are individual flowers. If you look at the buds you can also see that it has 3 petals. This would make it a monocot. Most garden flowers, including dahlias are dicots. Lilies and orchids are examples of monocots.

My guess is that it's a bromeliad, specifically a Puya. Bromeliads are from the pineapple family, and there are more than 100 species of Puya, so if it is a Puya it may be hard to track down the particular species.

Among the things that make me think it's a Puya are the vivid and contrasting colors on the flower spike. A lot of Puya flowers have colors that you don't normally find (see the first photo below)--there are very few blue orchids for example. On Puyas a number of flowers are arranged on a large spike. Like the mystery flower, Puyas have only 3 petals.

The flowers and flower spikes look so different between different species, but here are two examples. I think it looks sort of like the second one (Puya venusta):

http://ecran.fond.free.fr/austral/au_puy...

I think this is unlikely, but another possibility is some sort of ginger.

What is the name of the largest flower in the world?

Ther are two claimant

1) Raffflesia arnoldi and

2) Amorphophallus titanum

What is the name of the largest flower in the world?
Rafflesia is a genus of parasitic flowering plants. It was discovered in the Indonesian rain forest by an Indonesian guide working for Dr. Joseph Arnold in 1818, and named after Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, the leader of the expedition. It contains 15-19 species (including four incompletely characterized species as recognized by Meijer 1997), all found in southeastern Asia, on the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Sumatra and Kalimantan, West Malaysia, and the Philippines. The plant has no stems, leaves or true roots. It is an endoparasite of vines in the genus Tetrastigma (Vitaceae), spreading its root-like haustoria inside the tissue of the vine. The only part of the plant that can be seen outside the host vine is the five-petaled flower. In some species, such as Rafflesia arnoldii, the flower may be over 100 cm in diameter, and weigh up to 10 kg. Even the smallest species, R. manillana, has 20 cm diameter flowers. The flowers look and smell like rotting meat, hence its local names which translate to "corpse flower" or "meat flower" (but see below). The vile smell that the flower gives off attracts insects such as carrion flies, which transport pollen from male to female flowers. Little is known about seed dispersal, however, tree shrews and other forest mammals apparently eat the fruits and disperse the seeds. Rafflesia is an official state flower of Sabah in Malaysia, as well as for the Surat Thani Province, Thailand.

The name "corpse flower" applied to Rafflesia is confusing because this common name also refers to the Titan Arum (Amorphophallus titanum) of the family Araceae. Moreover, because Amorphophallus has the world's largest unbranched inflorescence, it is sometimes mistakenly credited as having the world's largest flower. Both Rafflesia and Amorphophallus are flowering plants, but they are still distantly related. Rafflesia arnoldii has the largest single flower of any flowering plant, at least when one judges this by weight. Amorphophallus titanum has the largest unbranched inflorescence, while the Talipot palm (Corypha umbraculifera) forms the largest branched inflorescence, containing thousands of flowers; this plant is monocarpic, meaning that individuals die after flowering.

New hypothesis of Rafflesiaceae derived from within Euphorbiaceae. Rafflesiaceae in red, Euphorbiaceae in black (redrawn from Davis et al., 2007).Comparison of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequences of Rafflesia with other angiosperm mtDNA indicated that this parasite evolved from photosynthetic plants of the order Malpighiales.[1]. Another study from that same year confirmed this result using both mtDNA and nuclear DNA sequences, and showed that three other groups traditionally classified in Rafflesiaceae were unrelated [2]. A more recent study found Rafflesia and its relatives to be embedded within the family Euphorbiaceae, which is surprising as members of that family typically have very small flowers.[3] According to their analysis, the rate of flower size evolution was more or less constant throughout the family except at the origin of Rafflesiaceae, where the flowers rapidly evolved to become much larger before reverting to the slower rate of change.

In Final Fantasy XII, "Rafflesia" is the name given to a major enemy in the Feywood stage, whose appearance and abilities appear inspired by the giant bloom.

A "Blue Rafflesia" is also found in Final Fantasy XI. It is one of the needed items to obtain the Opo Opo Crown.

In the Nintendo DS game Animal Crossing: Wild World, Rafflesia is seen as a Giant Plant when weeds overtake your town. You need to pick all weeds to remove the plant from your town.

One of the first Pokémon designed is called Vileplume, which evolves from Gloom when the Leaf Stone is used. Vileplume has a gigantic rafflesia on its head, and its Japanese name is "Ruffureshia", which sounds like "Rafflesia". When a Sun Stone is used on Gloom, it instead blooms into the beautiful Bellossom (from the Gold and Silver versions onwards).

Rafflesia also appears as a creature in the popular MMORPG, Ragnarok Online.

One of the Hidden bosses in Mega Man X: Command Mission (PS2, GameCube) is named Rafflesian, and has a flower-like appearance

In the manga Captain Harlock, Rafflesia is the name of the Mazones's queen.

The title of the song Lafflesia by Malice Mizer is an altered spelling of rafflesia, and in the song a beautiful flower is mentioned.
Reply:Amorphophallus titanum is the largest flowering plant in the world.

The common name is "Titan" because it grows so big. Another name is "Mr. Stinky" because when it blooms it emits an odor which exactly mimics those of rotting flesh. This putrid order attracts carrion beetles that pollinate the flower.

After seven years, our plant grew its first flower. The flower may grow up to 4 feet wide and 7 feet tall. And it usually grows up to half a foot per day. Ours opened 55 inches tall, and over 40 inches wide.
Reply:The largest individual or single flower goes to Rafflesia arnoldii.

Titan Arum and Talipot palm are also classified as large flowers and some consider Titan Arum the largest, but they are also considering it's larger organs. The Talipot palm is the largest cluster of flowers.

So, to answer your question- it depends on what type of flower you are looking at:

1. Largest unbranched inflorescence= titan arum (aka Amorphophallus titanum)

2. Largest branched inflorescence= Talipot palm

3. Largest single/ individual flower= Rafflesia arnoldii
Reply:Amorphophallus titanum

http://www.gustavus.edu/academics/bio/ti...

Go to this link you will observe one growing and about to blossom. It is rare to blossom when cultivated. Don't miss out on witnessing this likely on May 12.
Reply:Resolving the dispute between Titan arum and Rafflesia. Its the Titan Arum and NOT Rafflesia. Trust me. I know
Reply:I thought it was Rafflesia, also a fly pollinated flower thats very smelly. I think it grows in Indonesia and grows up to a metre across

Does anyone know the name of a flower that blooms at night?

Night-flowering Plants

Evening Primroses: (Oenothera ) are perennials with sweetly scented blossoms of soft white, pink and bright yellow that open each evening.

Moonflower: (Ipomoea alba ) is a night-blooming relative of the morning glory that perfumes the garden with five- to six-inch white flowers.

Angel's Trumpet: (Datura innoxia ) produces fragrant, six-inch white flowers that appear from midsummer until frost on this viney annual. Note that this plant is poisonous and should be kept away from children.

Night Phlox: (Phlox 'Midnight Candy' ) at dusk, flowers open to release a honey/almond/vanilla fragrance.

Evening Stock: (Matthiola incana ) has small pink or purplish flowers that are not showy, but emit an intoxicating fragrance at night.

Four O'Clock: (Mirabilis jalapa ) is a sweetly fragrant annual with colorful trumpet-shaped flowers that open in late afternoon and release a jasmine-like perfume.

Nottingham Catchfly: (Silene nutans ) offers a scent reminiscent of hyacinths. The flowers open on three successive nights before fading.

Night Blooming Cereus: (Selenicereus ) is known for its large, fragrant, night-blooming white flowers. This cactus is not hardy below 55°F, so grow it in a container and bring indoors for the winter.

Daylilies: (Hemerocallis ) that bloom at night include 'Moon Frolic' and 'Toltec Sundial'.

Yucca: (Yucca filamentosa ) bears flowers that are open both day and night.

Night-fragrant Plants

Flowering Tobacco: (Nicotiana ) is a lovely annual with long, trumpet-like blooms valued for their intense evening fragrance.

Night Gladiolus: (Gladiolus tristus ) features creamy yellow blossoms with an intensely spicy night fragrance.

August Lily: (Hosta ) produce waxy, trumpet-shaped flowers with a honey scent.

Fragrant Columbine: (Aquilegia fragrans ) offers creamy white flowers with a rich honeysuckle scent.

Pinks: (Dianthus plumarius ) display pale pink flowers smelling of cloves.

Fairy Lily: (Chlidanths fragrans ) bears yellow, fragrant flowers on stalks in mid-summer.

Thats the best I could do. Good luck.

there are moon flowers, which is basically a white morning glory type vine

Four o'clocks (bloom late afternoon through evening fragrant in the evening)

CasaBlanca lillies are great , big white and fragrant .They stay open day and night until the bloom fades.
Reply:Here in the Philippines, there's a white flower that blooms and have nice scent only at night. We call it dama de noche (spanish) or in english it is translated as queen of the night.
Reply:The moon flower. It's similar to the morning glory (which only blooms in the daytime), but the moon flower only blooms in the evening.
Reply:there are many.

one is the moon vine

relative to morning glory, fragrant

another is the night blooming cerus

blooms only once a year and is also fragrant
Reply:Our cactus flowers used to when I was on the farm.
Reply:Moon Flower, they smell great!

A plant or flower with the name carole?
I've found one flower for you. It's a pink fuchsia called Carole Hipkin. If you type this name into Google, you can see a picture of it. Hope you like it.
Reply:There is bound to be a flower with the name Carole in the title. Ask at a local nursery or garden centre and you will probably find something. Lovely idea so I hope you find something and feel it's suitable. Take a look at the following link from www.rhs.org.uk (Royal Horticultural Society in the UK):

Reply:Daphne x burkwoodii 'Carole Mackie' - (also spelled Carol) a fragrant spring blooming shrub.

Does anyone know what type of flower this is?

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g277/M...

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g277/M...

These are in my neighbors flower garden and she doesnt know the name of them. I want to find some for my garden but I need to know the name of the to do that. She said they came from a seed packet that she just dumped on the ground.

Does anyone know what type of flower this is?
Hey, this flower is a bulb called a Gladiolus (glads for short) . In region 3 they are perineals but in colder climates you need to lift them up store them in a warm place, then replant in spring. Here in Texas I can keep them in the ground. I have about 30 or so, and I am planting anouther 40 more. If you plant them about 2 weeks apart you will have longer blooming time. They make great cut flowers, my 10 year old and I keep them staked because when the wind gets up we worry that they will snap off.

Hope this helps you out.
Reply:The first picture is a rose. The second picture is gladiolus. The glads are usually easy to grow and come in bulb form.. They normally come back every year. Not sure if they have to be dug up during winter months and replanted in spring but more than likely they do... Hope this helps. If it is not a glad sure looks like one to me..
Reply:Looks like Hollyhock to me
Reply:They are gladiolas.I never seen them in seed form, they sure look like glads to me.
Reply:These are gladiolas, a.k.a. "glads". Been around since long before my grandmother's time. I believe they may be annuals but don't quote me on that.
Reply:those are gladiolas, gorgeous flowers that come in many colors, and are great cut floweres. as far as i know, they are a bulb, not seed grown.
Reply:gladiolas
Reply:The first photo shows roses, a red hibiscus, and a white gladiolus. The second photo is gladioluses/gladioli.

None of those flowers grow from seed, though. Glads grow from corms, which look a little like bulbs.
Reply:this plant comes in a bulb type not seed, type in search flowers.com you'll see it most likely
Reply:the red flower in the center is gladiolus, surrounded by different roses. I wish I could help you with the white flower, too.

Gladiolus have flower bulbs
Reply:They are gladiolas. Here is a site that will help you grow them:

A girls (flower?) name?

i need several flower names for girls for a story I'm writing.

the main character is named Lily Evans. a middle name for Lily would be apreciated (also flower. every girl in her family has a flower name.).

all of the characters are 17 and were born in the early 60's (so it takes place in 1977 or 78 in britan.

all of Lily's best friends go to the same boarding school as her and they have a sort of club beacause they all have flower names.

if you have any idea what this club should be called, let me know.

A girls (flower?) name?
This is probably really nerdy of me, but isn't Lily Evans the name of Harry Potter's mother?

Anyway, it would still be a great character name. I love someone else's suggestion of Lily Susanna, it sounds very 60's free love kind of thing lol.

Her friends could be: Violet, Dahlia, Marigold, Rose, Bluebell (another really hippie name lol), Fern (she could be the quiet one), Linnea (the exotic one, Linnea means lime tree), Azalea, Daisy, Poppy, Camilla (very British), Florrie / Flora, Hazel (Zel), Ginger, Heather, Holly, Ivy, Iris, Wisteria, Willow, Zinnia, Sorrel, Sage, Saffron, Pansy, Magnolia, May, Laurel, Juniper, Jasmine, etc. Well, obviously not all of them, but those are some options for you lol.

Since these girls are born in the early 60's, some of them could have zanier names, if their parents were all into hippies and stuff, like Bluebell or Juniper, or they could just be well and proper British people (they can afford to send their daughters to a boarding school after all lol) and so some could have names like Camilla or Rose.

As for the name of their club, it could be something really upfront like something Garden-related, or they could just be really wacky friends and pick something totally insane and irrelevant lol just to confuse people.

Good luck writing!!

Names of Rare/Uncommon Orange Flowers?

I'm looking for a pretty sounding, easy to spell, perhaps foreign, name of an orange flower. No common flowers please. Links to photos of the flower would be awesome but not necessary. Thanks!

Names of Rare/Uncommon Orange Flowers?
Well the trouble is that "rare" is defined by where you are.

For me: the orange-red ginger, Tapeinocheilos ananassae, is rare while the orange California poppy, Eschscholzia californica, is common. I don't think I've ever seen a wild butterfly milkweed, Asclepias tuberosa, so that's rare for me. Various asiatic lilies, Lillium sp., are orange.

Some of the N. American west coast Mimulus species are orange (often called Monkey Flower)

Some of the orchids are orange as well:
