Not aware of any special name given to water absorption by a cutting/slip. The only difference in a cut stem is that it doesn't have the increased surface area afforded by root hairs. As far as I know, water is absorbed by osmosis and possibly capillary action; and to a lesser degree transpiration pull (with cohesive forces) and air pressure.
