Whats the name of a poisonous flower that only blooms in June?

I was talking with someone, once upon a time, and they had brought up a flower. They said it was a poisonous flower, that it ONLY bloomed in June. I really need to know what that flower is. Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking maybe Jimsonweed, but this flower is something that can be used as a personal decoration indoors.

Does any one know something about the flower named...Euphorbia?

I think it is also called Crown of Thorns

Does any one know something about the flower named...Euphorbia?
Euphorbia milii is a slow-growing, ferociously thorny,semi-succulent shrub with bright green leaves. It is native to Madagascar.

Deciduous in cooler areas, it tolerates dry conditions and grows to a height of about 3'. It is excellent in frost-free rock gardens or sunny courtyards and is often used as a low hedge in coastal areas. Culture:Sun or part shade; in moist, well-drained soil;Cold hardiness varies depending on the species, the more highly succulent species are generally frost tender.Propagate from cuttings in spring or summer, allowing succulent species to dry and callus before placing in barely damp sand, by division in early spring or fall, or from seed in fall or spring.
Reply:Spurges (genus Euphorbia) are a very large and variable worldwide plant taxon, belonging to the spurge family, or Euphorbiaceae.

Origin of the name

The common name spurge derives from the Middle English / Old French: espurge, to purge, due to the use of the plants sap as purgative.

The botanical name Euphorbia derives from the Greek Euphorbus, physician of king Juba II of Numidia (52-50 BC - 23 AD), in whose honour – or in allusion to his swollen belly – a certain plant he might have used (Euphorbia resinifera?) was named. In 1753 Linnaeus assigned the name to the entire genus (Spec. Pl. (ed. 1): 450). Type species is Euphorbia antiquorum

Description

The genus ranges from small trees, shrubs, vines to herbaceous plants. A significant percentage of these are succulent plant, some of which remarkably resemble cacti despite being unrelated, an example of convergent evolution. To the exception of a few species (i.e. Euphorbia hedytoides or Euphorbia curtisii), this genus is composed of monoecious species.

Spurges have a highly specialized inflorescence: the cyathium, which are reduced unisexual flowers grouped into characteristic pseudanthia. It consists of a central pistillate flower surrounded by five groups of staminate flowers. All flowers are enclosed within an involucre with four marginal glands. The central flower develops before the surrounding male ones, thus each cyathium functions like a protogynous hermaphrodite flower. The glands of the cyathium usually produce nectar, and pollination is mainly zoophilous. Indeed, the cyathium looks so much like a hermaphrodite flower that Carolus Linnaeus and other authors interpreted it as a true flower. Jean-Baptiste Lamarck however interpreted the cyathium as an inflorescence and this is now recognized.

Spurges contain an acrid, poisonous milky latex, and some of them are armed with thorns. Most of the spurges yield powerful emetic and cathartic products.

Euphorbia species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Giant Leopard Moth.

Distribution

The genus is primarily found in the tropical and subtropical regions of Africa and the Americas, but also in temperate zones worldwide. Succulent species are mostly originated from Africa, the Americas and Madagascar.

Taxonomy

The genus Euphorbia is one of the largest and most complex genera of flowering plants and several botanists have made unsuccessfully attempts to subdivide the genus into numerous smaller genera. Now according to recent DNA studies Euphorbia can be divided into 6 subgenera, each containing several not yet sufficiently studied sections and groups...

What is the most extraordinarily beautiful flower in the world?

I'm tryin to find a really great flower to go with my collection of favorite things. Please, please dont answer my question with "a woman". I would like the name of a flower, and maybe it's scientific name, too. If you could, please copy and paste a link to a picture, too. Thanks

What is the most extraordinarily beautiful flower in the world?
There are so many beautiful flowers that it would be extremely difficult to say. And, you would be getting MY opinion of what I think is the most beautiful. You need to have YOUR OWN OPINION of what YOU think is the most beautiful. There are many, many sites that you can go to and look at the pictures and find out the names, there are thousands of flowers. I will not name a favorite, you need to decide that for yourself. I hope this helps.

Please tell me which name u like best for my new flower shop?

the names we currently have are

Bella Fiore (which means beautiful flower)

Fiore Della Vita Florist (flower of life) and

Ba-da BLOOM Florist

I am still taking suggestions if you have one to add, but these seem to be the favs.

We are located in a highly populated Italian community and I am also Italian.

The name must appeal to all ages and all occassions, weddings and funerals.

Any feedback will be appreciated. TIA!

Please tell me which name u like best for my new flower shop?
Bella Fiore is a beautiful name.

Fiore Della Vita Florist - too long and hard to remember

Ba-da BLOOM - funny, but might not be taken seriously

Other options:

Bella Blooms (combine Italian and English)

Bella Blossoms

Ciao Bella Blooms or Ciao Bella Blossoms (I love the word Ciao since it could mean "Hello" or "Goodbye", and who does'nt like to hear "Hello, beautiful"?

Amore Fiore or Fiore Amore

Flore Pleno (A botanical term describing a flower with extra petals)

Add the name of your neighborhood if it sounds good.
Reply:Bella Fiore sounds like a pretty, and upscale place. Where you would get ellagant flowers.

#2 is too muhc of a tongue twister

#3 is fun, it sounds more like a "every day person" flowershop. You would think the flowers would be resonable priced, if that makes sense. haha

I like #1, but #3 sticks in your head... which is kind of what you want. You want people to remember your store.

EDIT Ps... I'm not sure how things work where you are, but make sure East Side Mario's doenst have any claim on the Saying in any sense. Like toysRus... the kids store (not sure if they have them where you are..) but they have the legal rights to the backwards "R" in their name... so check that out if you decide to go with #3
Reply:I like Bella Fiore. It is classy and has a name that will appeal to many different age groups. Ba-da BLOOM is cute and would be great if you specialized in a quirky, fun stlye of arrangements. However, I would not order my funeral flowers from there.
Reply:Ba Da Bloom is hilarious and memorable. Very clever! In marketing, this gives you an edge over your more traditionally named competition. Kudos to whomever thought of the name. Really great.
Reply:I like Bella Fiore the best. It sounds beautiful and pleasing to the ear. I think the second name would be hard to remember. And I don't like the last one at all. Good luck!
Reply:i like the sound of Bella Fiore, I'm not Italian but sounds good to me, as long as no one else has that name. Good luck with your new shop.
Reply:Bella Fiore - sounds classy AND beautiful! Grazi!

#2 is too much too long and too many words

#3 just makes me chuckle
Reply:Ba-da BLOOM! That's creative!

#2 is too long a name

#3 sounds kinda ghetto

Why do some lovely flowers have terrible names?

"Scabiosa" and "Fetid Adder's tongue" come to mind, any others?

Why do some lovely flowers have terrible names?
Well, some are based on the scientific names, Latin, and some are based on how they were discovered and what uses they had at the time. I think most of them are because words and their meanings have changed so much since the time they were discovering them. I'm pretty sure "wort" isn't the same as "wart"! And there are a lot of "tongue"s: deertongue, beardtongue...= )

Oh, you know what's a good one? "Broomrape"s! That one's kinda cool because they actually were found as a semi-parasitic plant on the roots of the plant they used for brooms. There is actually a specific species called "Naked Broomrape"!
Reply:no sory cant think.
Reply:In England there are big fields of yellow flowers that you see from the train window. They're called 'rape'.

What is the name of this flower?

It has big white flowers that bloom and a lot of leaves. There is about 7 flowers blooming right now. They look like big bells if you turn them upside down. This flower started growing beside my parents house and they are unsure of what it is called and what the best suitable growing conditions are for this plant to survive the rest of the summer. We are also curious if it will regrow next year and if it could possibly be poisoness to children or pets. I do have a picture of it; however, I do not know how to post the flower for everyone to see.

What is the name of this flower?
I think it could be an Angel's Trumpet. I have them and yes it will most likely come up next year. When the flowers are done, does it get a prickly green thing there? If it does that is full of seeds and will cause it to come up again if you live in a warm area that doesn't get much freezing time in the winter months.
Reply:Sounds like one of many, instead of a guess can you identify it here in the expert advice section? Lots of pictures. http://www.garden.org/home
Reply:Just upload the picture and put the url to the picture in the additional details box.
Reply:Pick off one of the stems and take it to the local garden store. They will be able to give you much better advice since they will know all the local information on conditions in your area that we won't be able to supply. Good luck!

How do I go about learning the name of a flower?

I got a hanging basket, I cant figure out what kind of flower it is ( i got it at Home Depot, so they were no help), to me it looks like a mix between a pansy and a violet. Its blue and purple with a little 'ring' type thing inside the flower. Any ideas?

Thanks

How do I go about learning the name of a flower?
Cut off a piece and take it to a nursery. They will be able to tell you the name. OR take a close up picture.
Reply:Go to k-mart or wal mart or boarders and find a book on annuals, thats what you get in hanging baskets, an you'll find out what you have. annuals are easy to care for but you need to find out if they do better in sun or shade. Good luck
Reply:Go to the library and look in a botanical book of flowers to identify it. They probably have pictures and identifications of most popular flowers out there.

As far as flowers for your wedding. The type of flowers you will be able to get depends on the timing of your wedding. I would first find out what will be available to you based on the season, then begin to assemble ideas of what you can do with those choices.

Is there a flower named eternity?

I am getting a tattoo involving the Chinese symbol for eternity and am wondering if there is a flower named eternity, or that represents eternity.

I did a small search and got a ton of responses that fall under this category, and don't know one from the other, or which one is the right one.

Does anyone out their have knowledge about this and can help me out?

THANKS!!

Is there a flower named eternity?

Do you know the name of this blue flower?

I can't find a pic of it anywhere but it is almost a teal colour. Its shape is similar to a Bird of Paradise, I think but it is much smaller. I thought it might be a type of tropical flower that is dyed blue but I am not sure... all I know that it is a much different blue than most 'blue' flowers like hydrangeas, etc. Names and/or links to pictures would be greatly appreciated as I am using a dark teal as one of my wedding flowers and I thought it might look good for the boutonnieres.

Do you know the name of this blue flower?
Is it a lily or orchid?
Reply:Maybe a blue freesia, maybe a delphinium...you should probably go to a florist and ask because you'll need to order something they can get and they can suggest a lot of things.

Flower names?
Gazania, hibiscus, vinca, mum, and chicory RScott
Reply:#1 is a gaillardia

#2 hibiscus

#3 vinca

#4 ice plant

#5 catanache ( cupid's dart)

But I am not sure of the exact names ( just the family they belong to)
Reply:Yep, #4 is Ice Plant, not Mum (look at the leaves). #5 could be either Chicory or Cupid's Dart, but I'm going with Cupid's Dart - the edges of the petals look a bit more like that.
Reply:flower 2 is a red hibiscus flower and flower 3 looks like a impatient.
Reply:#2 is a hibiscus

#3 is a vinca
Reply:im sorry but when i push the pictures it says thats the picture or link is not permitted

so you need to try a different picture :)

Good Luck
Reply:Actually, RScott got them all right but one.

Gazania, hibiscus, vinca, (ice plant) , and the last one is Chicory.

Here is an identical picture for comparison.

http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im...
Reply:You've already gotten a lot of answers. I think RScott has the closest answers!

I agree:

#1: Gazania, #2 Hibiscus, #3 Vinca.

From there, I think that #4 is Ice Plant (Delosperma, maybe "John Proffitt"). I use the common name Cupid's Dart for plant #5 (Catananche).

I hope that this helps

**

I looked more carefully too, I think RScott is right about the Chicory. The stamens are different too!

What's up with all the thumbs down, except for RScott?
Reply:the 2nd one (red)is an amaryllis, sorry I've got a brain block at the moment but certain about the red one..

What do you think of matching names?

What do you of it when people who give their children matching names. Like all their names beginning with the letter A, or all having flower names, or Jayden, Kayden and Aiden...

Just wondering :)

What do you think of matching names?
I think it will make you go crazy and your kids won't like it much either. They'll feel more like individuals with their own names.
Reply:It's cute when their young. Not so cute when older.
Reply:My siblings and I have matching names and we have been teased about it our whole lives. Teasing is not the end of the world, but we all would prefer if our parents had chosen individual names.
Reply:I do nothing

Keegan,Haiden, and Tailynn are my kids names
Reply:i like it.
Reply:depends on what they are, i know a family with kids named kiera, kali, karissa, kanan, and kristopher, there cool
Reply:I think it's annoying.
Reply:I think it's cute if they have a common theme or beginning letter. Not so much for the rhyming...
Reply:I think it is very annoying and it is too cutesy. Siblings are individuals too so I believe they should have their own names. Matchy names can be very confusing too.
Reply:Its ok if they are all the same letters, but if they all rhyme THAT is anoying. i do think that twins names should start with different letters though, THEY ARE DIFFERENT PEOPLE
Reply:Starting with the same letter, all sharing one common sound, all flower names, etc. are fine with me, but I hate when people do rhyming names (like Jayden, Kayden, Aiden- there's a difference between that and Amy, Mary, Becky, for example) or very similar names, like Michael and Michelle, Daniel and Danielle, etc. Flower names and names starting with the same letter can still have a lot of variation (Lily, Myrtle, Violet, and Rose all sound very different, for example, as do Ashley, Alex, Amy, Amber, Amanda, Anne, etc). It's fine to have sort of a theme, but don't go nuts with it.
Reply:I don't like same letter names. It really ticks me off. It make's me want to burn things...
Reply:silly!!
Reply:I hate them with a passion. My sister and I have completely different names (Katherine and Amelia), look unrelated, and are five years apart, and they still can't say the right name when yelling at us! Why make it worse?

If you have to go theme names, why not something classy, like characters in Shakespeare plays, names that mean one thing, like 'sun', or writers' names?

If I had to do a theme, I would go writer's names:

Jane (Austen)

Oscar (Wilde)

Beatrix (Potter)

Hugo (Victor Hugo)

Very subtle, but nice.
Reply:I think it's cute

I would not do that myself

I see nothing wrong with it.
Reply:It can be kind of creepy, but sometimes it actually works. My sisters and I's names all end with a Y so it's like an EE sound, because my sisters are Becky (short for Rebecca), Mary and Amy. Some people think that's wierd, but some don't even notice. My mom wasn't even planning it that way.
Reply:It's annoying. I've heard of people naming the first child with a name that starts with "A", the second child with a name that starts with "B", etc. I think people should just name their children without trying to have a pattern to it all. And no made-up names.
Reply:i think its cute

What is the meaning of Flesia flower?

There is a kind of flower named Flesia. Quebecquas (people from Quebec) believe this flower; regardless of its color has a meaning if you give it to someone. Can you tell me what the meaning of Flesia is?

Thank you,

Qura

What is the meaning of Flesia flower?
I don't know of a flower called a flesia, the closest I know is a freesia.

It seems you get a slightly different meaning depending where you look. The most common is Innocence.

Flower Meaning

There is a traditional meaning attached to each flower, that stands with their own significance and importance.

Freesia = Innocence

Freesia - trust

Freesia for friendship

Freesia - Innocence, trust

Freesia Meaning: Innocence
Reply:I never heard of a flower called Flesia! Freesia means "spirited" but that's as close I can get!

Is there another name for the bottlebrush flower?

I got the name of the bottlebrush flower from your answers, but I need more. Thanx

Is there another name for the bottlebrush flower?
The common name "bottlebrush" usually refers to Australian native plants of the Callistemon genus, although this common name may also be applied to the Melaleuca genus. The flower of the two genera look the same, but the arrangement of seed capsules along the stem differs between the two, enabling correct identification - Callistemon being densely clustered and embedded in the branches, while Melaleuca capsules are irregularly clustered along the branches. Melaleuca species are also known by the common name "paperbark".
Reply:Callistemon is the genus. The species is Callistemon citrinus. If you are talking about another "common" name, I've never heard of one.
Reply:The shrub is called Callistamon and is an Australian native plant. They flowers come in a range of colours.
Reply:Callistemon

Can someone name this flower?

We have flowers growing along the side of our house (in Massachusetts). A bright but deep pink color with small yellow polleny centers, they are very fragrant. They have been in bloom a few weeks and continue to bloom. There are many bunches of the flowers on the stem and each blossom is about the size of a quarter (think lilac bunching, but larger flowers). The leaves on the stem are long and arrow shaped - kind of like a canoe shape, I guess. We are moving and want to buy some to plant at the new house. Can someone help identify this flower?

Can someone name this flower?
Sounds like Sweet William Dianthus Barbatus to me. Here's some info and photos ... and it is blooming right now in Southern NH too. It's a biennial, blooming usually in the second summer.

Another idea is various other Dianthus, like cheddar pinks. Or tall stocks, which have bunches of flowers that are incredibly scented.

(you can look through thompson and morgan for the others too... they're an amazing catalog with yummy photos. Great for winter browsing.)

I don't know the name of this flower?

my mother loves this flower bouquet she bought at the grocery store a week ago,

she liked it so much that she got another bouquet today.

she doesn't know what the name of the flower is, however.

they come in different shades of purple and they're in clusters,

somewhat like a hollyhock or a snap dragon,

and they are very fragrant.

i tried to find a picture of the flower of the internet but couldn't find any.

if you understand what flower i'm talking about,

please help♥

I don't know the name of this flower?
A lupin, or a delphinium ?

But I think it is a linaria, they look like mini snapdragons. See Link

http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im...
Reply:I think we "all" need to receive 10 points for this mixup! Wow! Report It

Reply:try delphinium
Reply:Based on your description, the key characteristic is the fragrance. There are several spike type flowers in the blue-lavender pallet but the only one common in the florist trade that has fragrance is the hyacinth (also comes in other colors like pink and white). Delphinium (or larkspur) can also have a nice smell but is closer to a true blue than lavender. Most of the the other cuts like gladiolus do not smell like the garden varieties. Hyacinths typically have a stocky, fleshy stem as opposed to a thin, hard stem so that might also be another identifier. If you find that the flowers are hyacinths, they are easy to grow indoors from bulbs. Lots of garden centers carry them, especially around the winter holidays. The flowers last a long time and it would make a nice gift for your mom. Did you happen to ask the florist (or the flower buyer, usually someone in the produce department) at the grocery? I'm sure they could tell you what it is.
Reply:is what your looking for perhaps Hyacinths??

heres a pic:

http://www.sccs.swarthmore.edu/users/03/...
Reply:Lupins?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lupin
Reply:what mother bought is probably freesia if it is very fragrant all the so called florists on this site should know you can't get hyacinths this time of year and if you do they're being imported from france and you can bet they're not being sold at waa-waa anyway larkspur is in season now and delphinium neither gives off a heavy fragrance though ask the clerk at the floral dept.
Reply:Your bouquet sounds like it may be the "freesia". It is very very sweet smelling and fragrant and is used by many florist shops.. It is native to Africa and is in the "Iris" family and resembles a mini version of the gladiola. Here is a link for you to compare too.

Whay are the names of wild yellow flowered plants growing in the fields and mountains of northern england ??

they are yellow in colour which you see at present time in lake district and cumbria growing on sides of hills and mountains.

also what is the name of pink flowered tree presently in bloom all over u.k. are they cherry blossoms ???

Whay are the names of wild yellow flowered plants growing in the fields and mountains of northern england ??
The yellow flowers could be eranthis hyemalis, dandelion or aconites. The trees are probably cherries, apples or plums. If the flower looks like it could be cultivated in the fields then it is probably Rape - from which rape seed oil is made :-)
Reply:not sure about the yellow flowers but the pink frothy blossom trees are flowering cherries(fruits not edible though), some of the darker ones are flowering plums, again grew for their ornamental use only
Reply:Yellow flowers are probably gorse.

The flowering cherry is sure to be Prunus Kanzan which was very fashionable 25 years ago asit was a strong grower.

Hope this helps
Reply:The flowers are dandelions and the blossom could be cherry or apple.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dandelion
Reply:Yellow flowers, could be dandelions or the smaller buttercups.

The flowers of the plant and tall with white petals, that look like it's only on side and exposes a yellow (gold) stigma. I hope I'm making sense. Someone please help.

Use the previous website and describe your plant and hopefully it will tell you the name. Also, you can use their plant finder A-Z. Which seemed like alot of work. Also you could bring a clipping of the flower and leaf to any local garden shop, (florist would work too) and they would be able to help you.

Good luck!

Whenever I was little I had a necklace that had a little plastic pendent. Inside the pendant was gel and seeds. Eventually, the seeds would sprout and turn into a flower. I cannot find the name for this anywhere and I would like to know if any of them still exist.

What is the name of the necklace that you grow a flower in?
This is what I came up with on my search...http://www.fatbraintoys.com/toy_companie... http://www.sz-wholesale.com/P/Finger-Ros... http://www.chinatraderonline.com/Capsule... All have plants already in them. Maybe you can use them as a pattern to make your own.
Reply:vase on a lace . . . . . .
Reply:that sounds so cool

i have only seen seed necklaces or dried flower necklaces

Reply:For a boy I would stick with something traditional as I think boys get a lot more stick for their name than girls do. (my son is called jack and my one on the way will be max)

For girls I think you can get away with most names flowers such as daisy, poppy etc are really cute. Cities and countries could be okay as long as it's nothing too out there. It depends on how unusual your talking, it's nice to have a unique name, but do you want your child to be alienated with examples such as apple? which they could get ridiculed for. Remember that they are stuck with these names for life, and a name such as apple don't sound very professional?

If you want your childs name to stand out then why not give them a more tradtional name with a different spelling? My own name is stefanie with an F not a PH, and I don't know anybody else that spells it like myself.

Need info. on where to get flower names?

In the begining of spring i pretty much threw a mixture of seeds from a packet of butterfly mix. There are names on the back of package but I don't know which is what. Does anyone know of a site I can maybe get some help. I need to move some of them but don't know how to care for them each. Thank you

Need info. on where to get flower names?
If they were in a package together then they all have the same light and watering requirements, namely, lots of sun and watering every few days. You'll have to be aware that you have probably planted annuals that will not return next year in which case you may not be able to move them without killing them. If you could list the names of the seeds from the package then we could probably be of more assistance.
Reply:Give me the names , %26amp; I'll tell you . (Play this game in my sleep , done it so many times;D)

Here's a good one : http://www.prairienursery.com/

I've bought seed from them . Good products, good company .
Reply:http://www.google.com - enter your list of flowers - you can also do an image search to see what you've got from your list. If you've still got your packages handy, email the list to me. I'll be more than happy to help.
